Knock Knock

Looking out the window she reflected
on a life callous, distant, untouchable.
Stalks of cane swayed, gently
in the almost stillness of the afternoon.
The fields stretched far and above the window
heights of pressurized feelings weighed down
on her thoughts, repugnant and screwed.
Scarred by words like love, heart, forever.
Looking out the window she wrote
words of brooding visions hidden behind lashes long.
She listened and responded, listened and stayed silent,
listened and saw change as worse than the truth
listened and whistled, listened and wrote,
listened and looked out the window – escape.
Looking out the window she reflected
on what was being asked of her.

Too much, just enough, what she’d always wanted?

Love knocked and she sat cowed down by reflections of

failure,

hearts broken,

forever stolen

She sat and waited,
questions answered by words unsaid and reflections
dreaded by blurred visions,

of now

of love

of you
